A portion of Sunrise Highway reopened in Massapequa Park after being closed for hours because a vehicle struck and seriously injured a 14-year-old bicyclist early Saturday morning, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

The crash happened around 4 a.m. near the intersection of Sunrise Highway’s eastbound lane and Cartwright Boulevard. A 23-year-old man was driving a 2023 Kia Forte east on the highway when he struck the teenage boy near the intersection of Block Boulevard, according to police.

A police spokesman says the 14-year-old bicyclist is in serious condition with non-life threatening injuries at a hospital. Police originally told Newsday the bicyclist's injuries were not serious.
