Billy Porter is recovering from a serious case of sepsis. The stage actor's ailing health has meant that Broadway's Cabaret has had to set an early closing date. Porter was slated to perform as the Emcee for 13 weeks until 19 October opposite Marisha Wallace as Sally Bowles. The production has now set a final performance date of 21 September. Porter had to withdraw from the show "due to a serious case of sepsis", reps for the production said in a statement on Instagram. "His doctors are confident that he will make a full recovery, but have advised him to maintain a restful schedule," the statement read. Producer Adam Speers called Porter "an extraordinary Emcee" in a statement. "We wish Billy a speedy recovery, and I look forward to working with him again in the very near future," Speers shared. Regarding the decision to close the production early, Speers said the "painful" decision was made "with a heavy heart". "On behalf of all the producers, we're so honoured to have been able to bring this version of John Kander, Fred Ebb and Joe Masteroff's important masterpiece, Cabaret, to New York, and to have opened the doors to our own Kit Kat Club for the year and a half we have been here."
