The parade hadn't yet started when members of the Capital High School Student Council were dancing, laughing and ready for the festivities.
Like dozens of other student groups and sports teams from throughout Santa Fe, the local student council is a regular presence in Desfile de la Gente, also known as the Historical/Hysterical Parade and one of the culminating events of the annual Fiesta de Santa Fe.
This year, council Co-presidents Daniela Almanza and Dafny Sagche said participation in the parade was part of a broader effort to get their peers involved in local activities and community service.
"We're really trying to get out there," Sagche said.
Participating in the parade, Almanza added, "brings us closer to our community."
