A Phelan woman was arrested Thursday, Sept. 4, on suspicion of killing her 72-year-old landlord, whose family reported her missing days before.

Margaret Minier, 57, was arrested on suspicion of killing Mindy Kum after sheriff’s officials found human remains on the Phelan property Minier rented from Kum, according to a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department statement issued Sunday.

The California Highway Patrol issued a Silver Alert on Tuesday after Kum’s family reported her missing. Kum was last seen by her family in Tustin.

Investigators learned Kum’s last known whereabouts were in the Phelan area, which led them to the home in the 6400 block of Smoke Tree Road.

The Sheriff’s Department didn’t specify Kum’s cause of death. The investigation is ongoing.
