McLaren made a controversial decision at the Italian Grand Prix, swapping Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri's positions at the end of the race.

In the latter stages of the race, Oscar Piastri came in for a pit stop first, executing an undercut while Lando Norris stayed out.

When the British driver came in for his pit stop, he ended up suffering from a slow 5.9 second stop.

After running in second place for most of the race, Norris was now in third, behind Piastri.

Then, Piastri was ordered to switch places, giving Norris back his P2 spot.

"This is a bit like Hungary last year; we pitted in this order for team reasons," Piastri's race engineer, Tom Stallard, said on the radio. "Please let Lando pass, and then you're free to race."
