PHOENIX — Red Sox closer Aroldis Chapman is so locked in right now that he was able to record four strikeouts in a spotless ninth inning Sunday.

Yes, you read that right. Chapman struck out all four batters he faced in the ninth inning of a 7-4 win against the Diamondbacks , a feat made possible when he got Ildemaro Vargas to chase a two-strike splitter for the second out and the ball trickled away from catcher Carlos Narváez. It was ruled a wild pitch that allowed Vargas to take first. Chapman then battled back, punching out Tyler Locklear and Jordan Lawlar to finish off a 23-pitch ninth — and his 29th save of the year.

Chapman’s 4-K inning was just the second in baseball this season, with the other coming from now-teammate Steven Matz when he was with St. Louis in June. The last Red
