A Cambridgeshire lido will be fitted with covers in a bid to reduce operational costs. Plans were submitted in July to install covers over the main pool and teaching pool at the lido in Bishops Road, Peterborough .

These plans have been approved by Peterborough City Council . The covers were needed to reduce heat loss and operational costs.

In a heritage statement, the plans said: “The introduction of a retractable pool cover aims to enclose the main pool during non-operational hours, thereby reducing heat loss and operational costs.”

The applicant said the lido currently faces “significant financial challenges” with its annual operating costs.

By implementing the retractable covers, it would “enhance energy efficiency by retaining heat, potentially extending the swimming season
