The star-studded awards show took place Sunday, Sept. 7 at the UBS Arena in New York. Fans got an evening full of Moonpersons being handed out, show-stopping performances and plenty of surprises along the way — including a live f-bomb and touching family moment with the Osbournes.

LL Cool J returned to the VMAs stage as host. Lady Gaga , who performed from Madison Square Garden, was the most nominated artist of the night with 12 awards,
