You can always count on the red carpet of the MTV Video Music Awards to provide three things: the hottest stars in music, some attention-seeking behavior, and a whole lot of tacky, glitzy fashion. This ain’t the Met Gala, people. The name of the game is to arrive loud and flashy. It’s just not the venue to expect elegant sophistication and restrained chicness in the classic mode. No, it’s meat dresses and public underwear as far as the eye can see–or at least, that’s how it usually goes. This year, however, we were pleasantly surprised by how, well, nice everybody looked.
