LOS ALAMOS COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – Robots are now in Los Alamos, but not in the way that you might think. One county in Northern New Mexico is testing out some cutting-edge technology that allows it to cut grass without lifting a finger.
It's a new robotic pilot program by the community services department. Robotic battery-operated lawn mowers make the process of maintaining the county's lands more efficient.
"So these mowers mow on a daily basis, a little bit of grass at every cut, which helps promote good turf grow and acts as fertilizer with those little cuttings," explained Katherine Hudspeth, the recreation superintendent in Los Alamos. She says these robots are like Roombas for the grass, with set paths to avoid barriers.
