A dog in Peru is being hailed as a canine champion after she extinguished a stick of dynamite that was chucked into her owner’s yard, saving the entire family — but leaving her unable to bark.

Carlos Alberto Mesias Zarate, a journalist, was more surprised by his dog’s heroism than the threat itself, waving off the would-be fatal blast as part of “his line of work.” 5

His dog, Machis, was likely just as shocked when he watched an explosive fly into their yard late one evening.

Outdoor surveillance footage captured a black-clad suspect as he lobbed a sparking object into the front yard before sprinting away, not sticking around long enough to see if they’d accomplished their mission. 5
