A British woman has tragically died in Ibiza following a horrific accident involving an Irish driver, who is alleged to have been under the influence of drugs. The incident occurred around 11.15am yesterday, when the driver mounted the pavement, striking three women, all aged 23 and from the UK.
The driver, a 30-year-old Irish national, has been arrested and faces multiple charges, including reckless driving and manslaughter due to gross negligence. Initial investigations suggest that the driver consumed nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, shortly before the crash.
The two injured women were taken to the Nuestra Senora del Rosario Polyclinic. One of them succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival, while the other remains in intensive care. Hospital officials reported that she is suffering from severe trauma, including closed chest and abdominal injuries, as well as damage to her spleen and kidney, and is currently in a critical condition.
A spokesman for San Jose Town Hall confirmed the details of the accident, which took place near Es Pouet Beach, close to the popular resort of San Antonio. He stated, "San Jose Local Police today arrested an Irish driver after he hit three people in the Es Pueto area, resulting in one fatality and two serious injuries."
The police are working closely with the Civil Guard and emergency services to gather evidence. They plan to extract data from the vehicle's control unit to gain insights into the driving behaviour at the time of the incident. The spokesman also acknowledged the assistance of local citizens, whose cooperation has been invaluable in locating witnesses and gathering evidence.
San Jose Town Council expressed gratitude to the Sant Antonio Local Police for their prompt and professional response during the incident.
