Neither Craig Silvey nor Eamon Flack know how they are going to bring the dog, Runt, to the stage.

"It might be puppetry," Silvey suggests.

"There might be a stage dog out there that's waiting for its time to shine. It might be someone in a suit. Who knows?"

What the author and artistic director do know is that a new adaptation of Silvey's beloved 2022 novel Runt is coming to Belvoir St Theatre in Sydney next year.

Runt is the story of 11-year-old Annie Shearer, who, to save her family farm from a nefarious neighbour, enters her rescue dog named Runt in a prestigious dog show in London.
