HAYTI — The early returns have been very good for a Hamlin High School football team trying to follow a perfect 12-0 season that ended with a state Class 9AA championship.

The second-rated Chargers scored on all eight of their first-half possessions in a 53-0 win over Waubay-Summit in a game that ended in the first-half because of South Dakota's 50-point Mercy Rule on Friday, Sept. 5, 2025.

Hamlin, which opened the season with a 36-0 win over Britton-Hecla and followed with a 29-23 win over a Hanson team that was rated No. 5, improved to 3-0.

The Chargers lost a number of key players to graduation, but standout quarterback Jackson Wadsworth leads the group of returnees that has been bolstered by others stepping into bigger roles.
