Supertramp frontman Rick Davies dies aged 81

Rick Davies, the co-founder and lead singer of the British band Supertramp, has died aged 81. The musician, whose hits included Goodbye Stranger, Breakfast In America and The Logical Song, died on Saturday after a battle with cancer, a statement from the band said.

He was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer, more than 10 years ago. A statement on the band’s website said: “As co-writer, along with partner Roger Hodgson, he was the voice and pianist behind Supertramp’s most iconic songs, leaving an indelible mark on rock music history. His soulful vocals and unmistakable touch on the Wurlitzer became the heartbeat of the bands’ sound.”
