FOXBOROUGH — Standing in front of his locker after the Patriots ’ 20-13 loss to Raiders on Sunday night, Stefon Diggs talked about Drake Maye.
“He is a guy that is super hard on himself. We are pulling for him, we just got to continue that positive reinforcement and that positive encouragement,” said Diggs, who signed with the Patriots in the offseason. “Quarterback is a very hard job so letting him know that you got his back and going to be available for him is going to be key in our success.”
That’s a great message and an ideal headspace for a veteran receiver working with a young quarterback to be in. It says good things about the team’s early culture-building.
But the Patriots should hope that Diggs and the rest of the roster don’t have to stay in that mindset for long.
