MORGAN TOWNSHIP — Last season, Morgan Township was consistently one of the best teams in Class 1A.

They finished 24-6, and swept the Porter County Conference Round Robin and Tournament.

However, the Cherokees' run ended in the sectional semifinal, losing to their conference rival Kouts in five sets.

That loss stung. A lot. The Fillies and Cherokees were almost perfect matches for each other stylistically — the hard-hitting Kouts squad going against the hard-nosed, hustle-for-every-ball Morgan Township side.

"It was really hard because we thought we would go out there and beat them again," junior setter Sierra Ricke said. "But I really had fun that game. I feel like everyone played good together. In the end, we fell short, but I was really proud of everyone on the team."
