On this date in 1966, Star Trek premiered for the first time.

Premiering as a series, it became known as the most “successful failure” in TV history.

The series only lasted for three seasons due to low ratings.

However, it eventually found itself growing into one of the longest-running and highest-grossing media franchises of all time.
