Cunningham, who has been associated with Ulster Rugby for 28 years since making his playing debut as 19-year-old in 1997, informed his bosses that he is seeking a new challenge.

He was part of the Ulster squad, alongside his brother Jan, that won the European Cup in 1999.

The 47-year-old made 150 appearances for the province before becoming an agent and moving into administration roles at Ulster.

In recent times as General Manager, Cunningham has been in charge of player contracts and recruitment.

Cunningham says: “It’s been an incredibly hard decision to make, but I feel that this season is the right time for me to look towards a new challenge, 28 years after my first cap back in 1997!
