As Perth steps into spring and prepares for that burning summer sun to creep over the horizon, Mr Shield is having second thoughts about his skin protection due to the sudden lack of trust in sunscreens.

It comes as high-profile and much-trusted brands are pulled from shelves amid a dramatic _ and apparently widespread _ failure in testing and advertising.

Consumer advocacy group Choice first revealed the breakdown in a shock report in June, suggesting sunscreen brands failed to meet their advertised SPF 50+ sun protection claims.

Mr Shield said that report and the follow-up withdrawal and retesting of products showed a lack of care from the brands.
