DONALD Trump has lashed out at Tom Hanks after a event planning to honor the movie star was scrapped.

The president also urged bosses at the Academy Awards to ditch supposedly woke actors.

Hanks was supposed to receive the Sylvanus Thayer Award at a ceremony hosted by the US Military Academy at West Point on September 25.

But, leaders of the West Point alumni group changed course.

The award ceremony will now not be taking place, as reported by the Washington Post .

Mark Bieger, a former US Army colonel, explained why the decision to scrap the awards ceremony had been axed.
