Legendary Argentine goalkeeper Hugo Tocalli hopes Emi Martinez plays for his country for “a long time to come”.
World Cup-winner Martinez is currently on international duty with Argentina, helping them to a 3-0 World Cup qualifier win over Venezuela last Friday.
They are now preparing to face Ecuador in another World Cup qualifier on Wednesday before Martinez returns to Aston Villa .
Martinez has said he will retire from international football if he helps Argentina retain their World Cup crown next year, but Tocalli hopes the 33-year-old plays for his country beyond that.
“Having a great goalkeeper is vital for a national team with high aspirations,” he said.
“It's a very important position if you want to achieve something.
