As a toddler spent her seventh day in a hospital bed recovering from a sexual assault, a crowd of 200 people gathered in front of Welland city hall demanding changes to the judicial system.
“This is an evening of healing,” said Koreen Perry, a local business owner who organized the candlelight vigil on Sunday to support the three-year-old girl who was attacked in her bed.
“We want to make it known we’re all standing together, but we’re not going to be keeping our mouths closed anymore and we’re going to stand up.”
Perry, a friend of the family, described the toddler as a “silly little girl” with huge eyes and a big smile.
During a video chat on Saturday, Perry said the rambunctious youngster was in good spirits and said she looking forward to returning home.
