RIGA, Latvia — Kamar Baldwin is from Georgia, and he plays for the Georgia basketball team — no, not the one in Athens , the one in Tbilisi.
Baldwin, a Barrow County native and alum of Apalachee High, helped lead Georgia's national basketball team to a major upset win over France on Sunday, sending them into the quarterfinals at Europe's basketball championships, known as EuroBasket.
Baldwin had 24 points on 8-of-10 shooting in the 80-70 victory, adding four rebounds and two steals.
It's unclear if he's ever had a prior connection to Georgia, but it's a common practice in international basketball for smaller countries to offer citizenship to Americans playing overseas to give their national teams a lift.
