Controversial Tory plans to house migrants at a former RAF base that were scrapped by Labour just a year ago could be revisited as small boat crossings surge , a Government minister has indicated.

RAF Scampton , once home to the Dambusters and Red Arrows, was earmarked by the previous Conservative Government to house up to 2,000 asylum seekers.

Labour axed the proposal last September, citing an assessment which found the Lincolnshire site was not value for money for the taxpayer. The scheme cost almost £50m despite no migrant ever setting foot on the former airbase. New Feature
