An 86-year-old man was reportedly mauled to death by Rottweilers while out for a walk in the Los Angeles County suburb of Norwalk over the weekend.

The attack took place about 6:45 a.m. Saturday in the area of 166th Street at Graystone Avenue, according to City News Service. The elderly victim succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning.

Two unleashed dogs attacked the man, resulting in a severe injruy to an artery in his left arm, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau Lt. Steve DeJong told CNS.

Paramedics took the man to a hospital, where he was rushed into emergency surgery but could not be saved.

Investigators identified the owner of the animals, who told them they had escaped from their property, CBS Los Angeles reported.
