A pioneer in children’s television has died.

He was 94 years old.

According to an obituary posted to Legacy.com , Anthony “Tony” Saletan died peacefully on Aug. 26 in Tacoma, Washington.

Suggest.com reports how Saletan — a New York City native — was best known for being the first to perform on Boston’s education TV station WGBH as well as the first-ever musical guest to appear on “Sesame Street.” He additionally helped to revive the religious tune “Kumbaya.”

“He was a loving husband and devoted father, cherished friend to many in the American folk song and dance communities, and an engaging performer who brought music, song, and cultural fellowship to people throughout the world,” the obituary reads.
