A Kent MP has condemned the actions of 'vandals' who painted flags on a street sign in Kent . Tony Vaughan, MP for Folkestone and Hythe, said it was 'unpatriotic' to deface the sign on Royal Miliary Avenue after it was painted with the St George's flag.
A movement involving both the raising and painting of the English flag on roundabouts, streets, and buildings is spreading across Kent and other parts of the country.
The MP said he supports the display of flags on public buildings and private homes, but not the graffiti, which he described as “vandalism.
He told KentLive: "True patriots do not vandalise our public infrastructure. Maintaining road signs and markings costs the local taxpayer money, and it is unpatriotic to deface them in this way.
