State Attorney General Tish James successfully co-led a coalition of 18 attorney generals to defend the legal status of more than 250,000 Haitian immigrants living in the United States who faced having their Temporary Protected Status revoked from them.
In an amicus brief filed Sept. 3 in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, the coalition argued — in a case brought by a group of Haitian immigrants — that the federal government’s move to revoke TPS from Haitian immigrants is illegal and will endanger hundreds of thousands of people from the country.
James and the coalition urged the court to grant the Haitian plaintiffs’ request to postpone the termination of TPS, which it did.
