MLS has suspended Inter Miami striker Luis Suárez three games for spitting on a Seattle Sounders staff member following the Leagues Cup final.

Suárez was suspended six games by the Leagues Cup last week, with MLS opting to add an additional punishment for the Uruguayan striker.

The 38-year-old kicked off a melee following Inter Miami's 3-0 defeat against the Sounders on Aug. 31 at Lumen Field.

After players and staff members from both teams clashed on the pitch, Suárez appeared to spit on Seattle Sounders security director Gene Ramirez.

Suarez will serve the three-match suspension starting in Saturday's game against Charlotte FC. He will then ironically miss a Sept. 16 rematch against the Sounders as well as a Sept. 20 game against D.C. United.

MLS also revoked the credentials of Sounders assistant Steven Lenhart for the remainder of the 2025 season, and fined the Sounders an undisclosed amount for misappropriation of credentials.

While Inter Miami's Sergio Busquets (two games) and Tomás Avilés (three games) were both suspended by the Leagues Cup for violent conduct, MLS opted not to discipline the pair.

Per MLS's collective bargaining agreement, the league has the right to suspend a player for MLS matches even if the misconduct takes place outside of league competition.

Suárez will see his Inter Miami contract expire at the end of the 2025 season. Should he not return, he likely would never be required to serve his six-game Leagues Cup ban.
