Waukiigan Shognosh’s first year at the University of Ottawa is about to get a lot busier.
The 18-year-old goaltender from Walpole Island was selected in the first round, 14th overall, by the Buffalo Bandits in the National Lacrosse League draft Saturday.
He was thrilled to be chosen by the three-time defending NLL champions.
“Buffalo was my No. 1 pick,” he said. “I think everyone would want to go to play for Buffalo. They were definitely at the top of my charts by a landslide.”
Many NLL players juggle day jobs or school with their pro lacrosse careers. Shognosh will shuttle between Ottawa and Buffalo when training camp starts in October.
It’s a rapid ascent for Shognosh, who was the Ontario Jr. B Lacrosse League’s West rookie of the year in 2024 with the Wallaceburg Red Devils.
