For those Plymothians who were taken aback at a series of loud bangs at noon today, all is well - it was just the Royal Navy celebrating a key date in the Monarch's diary.
Sailors from His Majesty’s Naval Base Devonport conducted a 21 Royal Gun Salute on today [Monday September 8] to commemorate their Majesties, King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s accession to the throne.
The Royal Gun Salute took place on the Quarterdeck at HMS Drake at bang on 12 noon to commemorates the third anniversary of the Accession.
Gun Salutes have also taken place at HMNB Portsmouth as well as across the country, with similar gun salutes from the ramparts of Edinburgh Castle in Scotland, Cardiff Castle in Wales, and Hillsborough Castle near Belfast in Northern Ireland.
