Herald readers are saying if it ain’t broke, don’t fix the state flag.
The Massachusetts Seal, Flag, and Motto Advisory Commission has released its three finalists, and when we asked Herald readers which design was their favorite, they voted in a poll to keep what we have now.
Of the roughly 900 responses, more than 80% opted for no change.
Less than 9% favored the Blue Hill Banner, followed by about 5% each for the Mayflower and feather designs.
The existing Massachusetts flag depicts a Native American figure with a broad sword above them.
The Herald reached out to the commission and state offices represented in it multiple times to ask what the contingency plan would be if the public at large rejected the proposed flag designs, to which we received no response.
