Just nine months after Intel promoted Michelle Johnston Holthaus to CEO of its chip design business, the company said Monday that she is leaving the company.

In a securities filing, Intel said that Holthaus had resigned her position but would remain employed in a non-executive role until March, “to ensure a smooth transition.”

While Holthaus had been at Intel for more than 30 years, her departure isn’t a surprise. She has had little public role at the company since new CEO Lip-Bu Tan took over in March . Tan has been critical of the product roadmap he inherited, complaining repeatedly that Intel hadn’t been listening closely enough to customers.

Last month, Tan said he would review each major chip design personally to ensure it met his goals.
