After subjecting Alberta to a reputational pounding, the UCP government has come to its senses on book banning in schools.

But will they admit a mistake? Not on your life.

Will they concede that international scorn had anything to do with the screeching reversal?

Not a chance.

Did they do it by choice on World Literacy Day, which happened to fall on Monday?

They didn’t seem to know it exists.

A new ministerial order still bans graphic visual depictions of explicit sex from schools, for students of all ages.

The big changes come down to one little word — “visual.”

Written depictions of sex are no longer banned. All the mandates around age groups and “age-appropriate” screening are gone.
