KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. — The Charlotte Thompson Fire Station in Kershaw County, covering the Antioch, Charlotte Thompson and Boykin communities, began staffing 24-hour firefighters over the weekend.

“It makes us all sleep a little bit better at night," said Boykin resident Wayne Belger.

The Charlotte Thompson Fire Station will now have one firefighter at the station 24 hours a day. Three firefighters will rotate on a schedule of 24 hours on shift and then 48 hours off.

Director of Kershaw County Emergency Services Will Glover says the county has been working to add full-time firefighters throughout the county.

“So when we were looking at the next station to staff, this area made sense because of how far it was from other full-time stations," said Glover
