The Department of Homeland Security announced the start of a new immigration operation Monday in Chicago called “ Operation Midway Blitz ,” stirring up fresh confusion and anxiety over a possible federal intervention in the nation’s third-largest city.

President Donald Trump said Monday that he intends to send the National Guard and an influx of immigration agents to Chicago, but it’s unclear what role the new operation will play in his plans.

Details on the expected intervention have been sparse, though Trump’s border czar Tom Homan said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that federal law enforcement action will come to Chicago this week.
