COLUMBIA, S.C. — After a brief brush with cooler, drier air, the Midlands is in for a stretch of calm, pleasant weather heading into the weekend and next week.

On Monday, a stationary front that had extended from southeastern Georgia up the coast pushed well to the south, allowing drier air to filter into the region. While upper-level winds continue from the southwest, a persistent northeast surface wind is reinforcing the cooler, dry air.

That will lead to mostly clear skies and noticeably cooler temperatures for much of the area. It's going to be windy with continued cooler start to the mornings , especially Tuesday.

Tuesday morning will kick off with a chill in the air, as temperatures drop to around 59 degrees under mostly clear skies.
