OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - A new group of poll workers is now a part of the Douglas County Poll Worker Hall of Fame.

One of them volunteered at his first election in 1960, and he hasn’t missed an election since. For him, ‘We the People’ is more than words in a document, it’s action for our democracy.

65 years — that’s how long George Reed has volunteered during elections, never missing one.

“What can I say, it’s just one of those things that happens in life where you bite the bullet and yeah it’s pretty good,” laughed Reed.

Reed joined the army as a young man; after returning from service for the summer, the then-22 year old noticed the local elections board needed volunteers.
