ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The area surrounding Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway is troubled. For children who grow up there, it can often seem like there is no way out.
“Someone has to show them the way, and that’s what we’re trying to do,” said Marlon Richardson, the co-executive director of Atlanta Phoenix Boxing Club.
Richardson and his wife, Umunique’Danielle, operate the nonprofit, part of Big Fish Outreach Ministries, as a way to help at-risk Atlanta youth chart a different path.
“Conflict resolution,” said Umunique’Danielle. “It helps them navigate their anger. It helps them to control themselves.”
Many of the kids who find themselves at Atlanta Phoenix start because of trouble, either inside or outside the home. Most are ages 12-to-21.
