SANTA FE, N.M. —

New Mexico's governor announced that starting Nov. 1, child care will be free for every family in the state, regardless of their income, making New Mexico the first in the nation to offer universal access to free child care.

Many parents expressed their excitement about the announcement.

"I think it's absolutely wonderful," Barbara Madrigal, a parent, said. "Honestly, I think that it's absolutely important for every working parent to have and not have to worry about their children throughout the day, and what, how they're going to essentially, get the care that they need."
