A boat tour along the Kalamazoo River will take a look at Michigan’s lost city of Singapore, near Saugatuck.
Saugatuck Douglas History Center Eric Gollannek says Singapore was a lumber town that was buried by sand dunes once the mills closed for good around 1875.
“The mills closed and once the town wa s abandoned, those sand dunes all around that settlement begin to drift and cover over the site itself,” Gollannek said. “ So by the late 1800s, people are referring to this site as Michigan’s Pompeii, as this lost city.”
Gollannek will lead two boat tours September 29, exploring the ghost town.
