Former U.S. Rep. Cedric Richmond, Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams and Public Service Commissioner Davante Lewis on Monday threw their support behind Helena Moreno in the New Orleans' mayor's race , saying she alone is best suited to lead the city.

Flanked by a group of other politicos at the historic Dooky Chase restaurant on Orleans Avenue, Richmond, Williams and Lewis announced their endorsements in a race that is gaining momentum ahead of the Oct. 11 municipal primary.

Richmond is seen as a kingmaker in New Orleans political races after serving in Congress and as a top aide to former President Joe Biden. He has long been a Moreno supporter. Williams is a powerful citywide official and longtime Moreno ally, dating to when both served on the City Council.
