WARRICK COUNTY, Ind. (WEHT) -- A chemical fire at PBTT on Saturday leaves residents wondering, “What now?”

The fire spread ash and debris for miles with officials warning of potential chemical burns if you come into contact with it.

"You can't like smell them or anything, but because of the way they settled, if you touch them, just the water and moisture in your hands would actually make them a lot more reactive and if you actually touch them, it would be a little bit like your skin oils or almost makes soap with those," says University of Southern Indiana Chemistry Professor Dr. Mark Krahling.

Krahling says a shelter in place order was wise due to the fire making the air quality bad.
