LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -The Okemos Public School Board has decided on potential salary increases for select staff, including the superintendent and assistant superintendent.

The district says the decision was required because it impacts retirement funding.

“If we were to give a future potential increase, if not that we are, it would be capped at 3% and that would count towards that employee pension,” said Superintendent John Hood.

The board’s decision does not actually guarantee a pay raise for those employees.

“The longer we wait it has the potential for negatively impacting that employee’s final compensation,” said Hood.

There were several questions and concerns leading up to the final vote, especially with uncertainty surrounding the state education budget.
