A 13-year-old boy in Pierce County, Washington, has been arrested after authorities discovered a significant collection of firearms and writings related to mass shootings at his home. The arrest followed reports that the boy had expressed thoughts of becoming a school shooter and had made threats to kill.
Law enforcement was alerted on Friday afternoon about the boy's behavior, which included claims of having access to guns. In response, police conducted a search of his residence early Saturday morning. They reported finding a large number of both secured and unsecured firearms, as well as loaded magazines that contained writings about school shootings. Additionally, they discovered clothing and documents that depicted scenarios typical of mass shootings.
Court documents indicate that the teenager had been active on social media since June, posting images of himself with firearms and expressing a fascination with recent school shootings and mass casualty events. Some of his posts referenced the infamous Columbine High School shooting from 1999 and the tragic Uvalde, Texas, elementary school shooting in 2022.
Among the items recovered were AR-style magazines inscribed with references to mass shootings, including Columbine. Authorities also found materials related to fireworks and explosives at the boy's home.
The teenager faces several charges, including attempted threat to bomb or injure a school, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of fireworks. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
Officials noted that the boy is not currently enrolled in any school district, having last attended the Franklin Pierce School District in 2021. A spokesperson for the district confirmed that they were informed by local law enforcement about the arrest and stated, "We continue to work with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office to ensure that this individual is not a threat to our schools or our community as a whole."
