Sydney's Inner West Council is cracking down on the increasing number of people parking their cars across the driveways of homes and businesses.
In 2024 alone, there were 4300 reports of driveways being blocked in the area, a 40 per cent increase from the previous year.
The council's new strategy means that when a resident informs the council that a driveway is blocked, the vehicle will be towed in less than three hours.
"We then work with New South Wales Police to contact the vehicle owner, advise them where they can pick up their vehicle," Inner West councillor Chloe Smith said.
Fines from the offence have also doubled, jumping from $330 to $660.
