The United States is slipping in the eyes of its expatriate residents, according to a new survey.

In this year's Expat Insider survey by Internations, the U.S. ranked 36th out of 46 nations that were rated by expats on several criteria, including quality of life, personal finances, happiness and work life.

The survey, conducted in February at the start of the second Trump administration, shows a broad downturn in satisfaction across multiple areas of life. Expats rated the U.S. more harshly on everything from environmental policies to job security. Nearly half expressed doubts about political stability, and fewer said they felt comfortable speaking freely.
