Millions of households are seeing their energy bills rising – despite already being hundreds of pounds in credit.

Energy customers have reported seeing their direct debit bills going up over the past few weeks, despite not using the heating and already having a healthy balance with their energy supplier.

On Octopus Energy’s Facebook page, customers have complained this week that despite building up a chunk of credit, they have received an email saying their monthly payments need to increase.

Most households use less energy over the summer and build up some credit , as they are paying for more energy as they are actually using.
