Fairview High School and Southern Hills Middle School in Boulder were placed on lockdown Thursday morning after police received a call about a man with a gun near the high school, authorities said Thursday morning.

Dionne Waugh, a spokesperson for Boulder police, said the department received reports of a man with a gun near Fairview High School and placed the school and nearby middle school on lockdown.

Police are still looking for the suspect, she said at 11:15 a.m.

Police also issued a shelter in place for a half-mile around the school.

“Please continue to avoid this area for now while we investigate a report of a man with a gun,” Boulder police said in a post on X at about 11:30 a.m. “We have not yet found any suspect or been able to confirm this initial report.”
